“HEALTHY” FAST FOOD KIDS MENUS, AN OXYMORON? OUR EXPERT SEPARATES FACTS FROM FICTION.

KIDS HOME FOR THE SUMMER? THE PERFECT TIME TO HELP KIDS EAT SMARTER, LOOSE THE EXTRA POUNDS AND HAVE FUN DOING IT.

IN THE BOOK EAT SMARTER , AUTHOR DR. DALE FIGTREE, A NATIONALLY RENOWNED EXPERT ON NUTRITION, TALKS ABOUT THE DIFFICULT CHOICES PARENTS FACE EVERY DAY WHILE TRYING TO CHOOSE THE BEST FOOD FOR THEIR KIDS.

El Monte , CA. June 21, 2006 (ZHealth Books)- There are 9 million overweight children nationwide -according to the Surgeon General- , with a continuing alarming increase over the past three decades. Children who are overweight are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma and high cholesterol among other serious physical problems. These children are more likely to have weight problems for the rest of their lives. Not surprisingly, “healthy menu” options are appearing at various fast food restaurants. But just how healthy are they?

EAT SMARTER - The Smarter Choice for Healthier Kids is based on James' story, an overweight teenager and Dr. Dale Figtree's successful attempt to help him reduce weight while improving his overall health. This book is not precisely about dieting, but rather about understanding the effects food choices have on one's health.  It is about improving a lifestyle by building strong foundations in regards to eating habits. Is your kid overweight? Are you ready to take the necessary steps to make a difference in your child's life? How can you explain the dangers of obesity to a child? How can you help them cope with their bodies?

Dr. Dale Figtree proposes an innovative approach. The book/illustrated book combo is the only one that speaks to parents about dealing with their overweight kids while the comic book helps kids understand the need to make changes to their eating habits. Dr. Dale Figtree is available to speak about her experience helping people lead healthier lives. Many parents have let their kid's overweight issue drag for too long; Dale Figtree can explain why summertime is the best time to make drastic changes to a dietary routine.

Physically fit children are likely to be healthier, physically and emotionally, and are more inclined to carry their healthy lifestyle into adulthood. EAT SMARTER is the perfect guide to help you start a new and healthier lifestyle for kids and adults alike.

About Dale Figtree
In 1977, while working in New York as a fabric designer, Dale was diagnosed with a large inoperable malignant lymphatic tumor attached to her heart, lung and major arteries. After 6 months of chemotherapy and radiation at Sloan Kettering Hospital , the tumor had shrunk but was not entirely dissolved. Having exhausted all available conventional treatment, she was discharged with what was labeled a ‘guarded prognosis'. At this difficult juncture Dale became intensely involved in her own healing process, committing deeply to nutrition – through the guidance of a naturopathic doctor, Dr. Juan Cursio, as well as visualization, meditation and life style changes. After three years of continued focus on nutrition, inner work and detoxification, Dale was retested by CAT scan and declared cancer–free. In response to growing inquires, Dale eventually parlayed her healing experiences and the valuable resources discovered, into her book, Health After Cancer . She acquired her Ph.D. in Nutrition in 1986 and shortly after, developed a Nutritional Consultation practice in Laguna Beach , CA . In 1993 she moved her practice to Santa Barbara, CA and began teaching ‘The Basics of Nutrition' at the Santa Barbara College of Oriental Medicine, as well as presenting nutritional seminars throughout the United States and Europe.
